| 8.31.02 11:35 PM (Saturday) Bumbershoot Day #2 |
Okay so I woke up around 11 but, I really just needed some down time so I chilled until around 1:30 or so until I got ready for Bumbershoot. My sister drove me down there and I barely made it for my 2:40 deadline cuz that's when I was supposed to get trained.
So I entered through the volunteer entrance, checked in, and started working w/ Anna. It was pretty interesting at first, but it quickly got boring once people stopped coming. Soon John's shift was over and he came to chill w/ us. Our volunteer job... we didn't let Seattle Center personnel and Police Officers (uniformed ppo) in at first, but they kept bitching so we were told we could let them in.
Well soon people really stopped coming, so we closed early at around 7:30. We went to Pagliacci's to eat, came back, I played a game of DDR, we chilled some more, and then saw this really interesting circus performance before we decided to call it quits. I waited for a ride at McDonald's and yeah... I wanted to get home in time for SNL ^^ |
| 8.31.02 12:25 AM (Saturday) Bumbershoot Day #1 |
The action's just nonstop when you only have a few days of summer vacation...
So tired... I got up around 10 or so, got ready, the works. For some reason I was 45 minutes late in meeting Anna outside Key Arena cuz... I got directions for Memorial Stadium, not Key Arena o_O
Well I finally found Key Arena and met Anna. We walked around the entire Seattle Center looking for Anna's friend so he could possibly sneak us in... but we were hesitant... after an hour or so of deciding we finally decided to buy tickets!
Yup. $20 on Bumbershoot tickets. I'm so broke now. Anyways... we decided to wait for Anna's friend, whom I learned later was named John, to get off his shift around 2. Then we all chilled, checked in at the volunteer area, and Anna and I decided to volunteer ourselves, for whatever reason o_O Now we're working the volunteer admissions from 3-8 for the next 3 days. Fun fun fun (at least I hope it'll be.)
Uhh after that I was hungry, so we all went to McDonald's. The line was long b/c other ppo at Bumbershoot had the same idea... cheap food!
We came back to Seattle Center, and headed to the Intiman for some short film festival. It was kinda cool... out of the four short films we saw, I liked this one called "Sixty Cups of Coffee," and another one called "Bar Time." They were artsy but not so abstract that I couldn't understand them.
Lessee... after that... we chilled a little, then decided to head over to Memorial Stadium for the featured event: 4th Avenue Jones, Nappy Roots, and Wyclef Jean. We waited probably an hour for good seats (maybe a few rows of ppo from the front), and yeah. Really crowded and musty.
I was feeling it during 4th Ave. Jones' performance... yep... and it was less packed, and less sweaty, cuz it was early. By Nappy Roots everyone was kinda squished together, and this one really slutty girl comes up with her fat punk boyfriends and they stand right in front of us, which kinda pissed me off. During Wyclef's performance everyone was all up in each other's space but it was cool cuz... it was Wyclef! It's too bad I haven't been following his music lately, but he did play tons of songs that weren't by him. I recognized all his old songs... he even did some that he did w/ the Fugees: "Fugee-la-la", "Ready or Not" (I knew all the rap parts to this one so I was singing along.. lol), "Guantanamera," and "Gone 'til November."
Yeah the music was pretty good. It went on until 10:30 or so, then I abruptly parted w/ Anna and John b/c I found Leanne, Celia, and Israel and I got a ride w/ them ^^; I'll see Anna tomorrow tho, just not sure where we're meeting.. hmm |
| 8.29.02 10:22 PM (Wednesday) Multiple part day |
I got up around late 7, as if I was going to UW. I was really tired cuz I slept at 2 or so last night. Anyways... I missed the 8:40 bus, like I do sometimes and it makes me late to Psych, so I waited maybe 20 or 25 minutes for the next 48 to come. Too bad I got to GHS really early...
People told me to come for the Ignite thing at 9:30 but it really started at 10:30. The 9:30 time was for the people working at the activity fair. It was all good though, I saw more people I haven't seen during the summer, good times. 10:30 rolled around, I went to Stever's for Ignite, and only two of my kids showed up, so Stever gave me another freshman.
Time flew, and soon it was time for lunch. I met up with Ulysses and Graham and headed down to the lunchroom for free food, which was a really messy sandwich. After a long period of just chilling I finally decided to take the bus to UW.
At UW I first went to Padelford, was confused by the different sections (A, B, and C) to try to look for my Prof.'s office to get my papers back. She wasn't in there, neither was the AES secretary. So I went to Schmitz Hall to send my transcript to GHS first. On the way I encountered Chia-Chi, who I always seem to run into for some reason. I wondered where I could get my papers for AAS 210, he was like "I know what you got already... you got the second highest grade or something like that." And it amazed me, I didn't think I was being thorough on my final at all... but I'll see when I get my papers back, hopefully soon. He told me the reason I didn't get a 4.0 was because I was really quiet during class, which was true, but it was barely a 4.0 by 5 points or so out of 400 X( I went back to Padelford and the secretary told me Prof. never delivered the papers so...
I took the bus Downtown, and got off at the Convention Center Stop to go to Yuen Lui. I upgraded my sitting fee to this senior picture special thing and paid $33 or so extra, but at least I get 16 wallets (still expensive.) If anyone wants my picture, it'll be $2 please... haha.
After that... I took the bus south and waited in front of Pacific Place for Margaret, for the traditional summer movie. We bought tickets to Simone @ 4:10, then went to Starbucks to chill... I got a Venti Chocolate BF and it took me an hour or so to drink it. There was this guy who was sitting behind us and looked exactly like Eric o_O I think he was Japanese though. Couldn't tell. Maybe it's Eric's cousin or something.
So then we went to the movie. Simone was actually really good--funny at parts, and although the ending was a little dragging it was still really good. Yeah. After that we went to the park across Westlake to chill, encountered Melissa, then Margaret dropped me off in Chinatown for the last part of the day...
Luk's welcoming back dinner. A bunch of the lunch crowd was supposed to come, but not everyone got the message/showed up. I arrived a little late at 7:03. Anna came at around 7:15, and we checked inside Honey Court to see if anyone was in there, but no one o_O Then Anna got back inside her van and seemed to drive off, and it seemed like she ditched me but she actually just circled the corner. Luk came at around 7:30, then Amy, Shu Ming, and Jennifer came a little after that. Then Anna came back. Then we went inside and sat down and ate and you know, usual dinner stuff.
The dinner was overall really goofy, a nice change of pace. After the dinner we waited outside the restaurant for Anna's bro to come pick her up, and we waited for a long time. Well he finally came, and then Amy dropped the rest of us off.

| 8.28.02 11:00 PM (Wednesday) UW GRADES ARE IN! |
Asian-American Identity - 3.9
Intro Microecon - 3.7
Intro to Psych - 3.6
I really wanted a 4.0 in Asian-American Identity but a 3.9 works too ^^ That's the only class where I really cared about my GPA because I tried the hardest in it (midterm and final from hell). It's too bad my grade couldn't be higher in Microecon because I thought I did relatively well, and I'm just happy my grade in Psych is greater than 3.5--the last test was a bitch.
This means if I go to UW my cumulative GPA will be a 3.73... hmm.
|
| 8.28.02 10:34 PM (Wednesday) Pictures, and... |
Today was rather busy. I woke up early to get ready for my senior pix session @ Yuen Lui Studios... I had to bring three outfits. I was waiting for my sister to come home to drop off my other sis @ her orientation @ FHS and I didn't know why she was late... it turns out a bus was hijacked just as they were leaving the house o_O The bus hit an SUV down our street, it was pretty bad.
I got to Yuen Lui a little late, but it was alright. I paid the $25 sitting fee and got my pix taken. I like them, they're pretty cool... I just dunno which one to pick out. Too bad the pictures are really really expensive.
I got home and took a nap (I was really tired) and woke up around 4:20. I needed to be @ GHS in 10 minutes.
I got to GHS for the freshmen orientation thing. Aah, it felt good to be back with all the GHS ppo, see everyone who I haven't seen in a while. In the gym I basically chilled with Eric as we looked for our freshmen. I don't remember my frosh's names yet, cuz I only met one of them today, but I'll meet them all tomorrow.
Oh yeah Anna came and dropped off Alesha's coat too, cuz she was at Medgar Evans. So yeah that was pretty cool... hopefully we can all sneak into Bumbershoot on Friday.
So we went to the auditorium for some.. thing, then went to the field for the BBQ. Amanda Wong is going to be a frosh! She was the only person I knew. We started talking and it was like... Madrona, back when I was in 5th grade hehe. It's strange b/c I'm not really friends w/ her bro anymore, and they used to be close, and I used to be cool w/ both of them back in the day...
The line @ the BBQ was long. Anna and I cut in front of everyone and went backwards for our burgers, but no one seemed to mind lol. Afterwards... I was going to ask for a ride but since no one lived on Queen Anne I waited at the bus stop w/ Anna until the 3 came. Then I waited like 30 min for the 48. It's all good tho...
Still can't believe summer's almost over. I still have... 6 days left... I know I'll be really busy tomorrow, I'm a little unsure about Friday, and I think I'll just rest/do HW/clean my room for Sat.-Tues. |
| 8.27.02 7:00 PM (Tuesday) Ignite |
In the morning I had an Ignite Mentorship meeting. For some reason it really made me unenthusiastic about the whole thing... before I was all pumped up to do it, but the training today was just...
In the morning I got to Ingraham where it was being held, even if I was a little late. Then the Steve guy comes in and gets us all hyped up, which was corny, but I guess it's standard. Then we divide ourselves into different personalities, which I didn't mind too much, but to me it seemed like "oh yeah--you're this personality. You do this, and this, and this, but not this." Just like institionalized racism! "Hi! You're an Asian male. You're passive, passive aggressive, quiet, nerdy, and antisocial!" These classifications are useful for the actual thing, but I dunno. I just didn't like the execution. I'm whining, I know... I just didn't think the training today was too useful.
Everyone else from GHS that was there (Sarah M., Vanessa, Shawna) had to leave early so I decided to go too. I would've stayed but I hated the atmosphere. On the flip side, I saw Christine and Louise there... haven't seen them in so long.
So we had a mini-GHS meeting during the lunch break, I mean the Steve dude is great for the training and he's really nice... but therein lies the fault... he's just so full of... how to put it...crap? in my opinion. I'm having so many doubts right now.
Well after that whole mess I went home and took a nap, then went school shopping again. I spent so much money today. Let me think... I went to Gap, bought 2 pairs of pants and two shirts. Then I went to Zumiez and bought two t-shirts. After that... AE, and bought two pairs of shoes and a shirt. Finally I went to Structure and bought a jacket. All in all... including yesterday's stuff, I spent maybe $450 or so on clothes this year. Oh well.. not like I go shopping all that often. |
| 8.26.02 11:45 PM (Monday) MY FIRST DAY OF SUMMER VACATION! |
It was fun! In the morning I called Alex, Andy and organized meeting time to be picked up. Alex came a little late, at 2:15 or so and we were supposed to be at Illusionz @ 2. Whatever tho.. we got there, saw Eugene and James, and just played the various games. DDR is losing its touch, it's really not that fun anymore. I played a ton of MvC2 and Mr. Driller cuz those are really fun ^^ I think I PPP'ed once, and played CvS once too. But it was a good deal: until Labor Day all games are 50% off. I spent about $5.50 on all these games for about 2 hours, and I still had $.50 left on my card!
So James had to leave, or something, and the remaining four went to Jack in the Box (or as Andy called it, "J-Beezy") and I got cheap $1 items. Good deal. I was feeling really sick at that point... really tired from all the DDR'ing.
After that... we dropped Eugene off at Illusionz and headed back to Seattle. I got home and my sister and I went school shopping. We went to Old Navy where I spent $80 on jeans, a hooded sweater, and a plaid shirt. I was going to get more but I ran out of money... we went to Southcenter to look for cargo pants, they didn't have any good ones @ the GAP so we went to AE to look for some, I was like "hmm these are nice" but they were all wrinkled! Then I went to A&F (as an Asian American I know I shouldnt be going in there) and all the cargo pants there were wrinkled too! I might go back and get them (at AE) tho.
There's so much stuff I wanna do before summer is over. I have to organize camp counselor reunion, which might be hard. Bumbershoot too. And hopefully a fun end-of-summer event. There are so many ppo I wanna hang out with before summer ends. Here's to a memorable beginning (end...) to summer! |
| 8.23.02 10:39 PM (Friday) The end... or is it? |
Whew... I survived!
Let me recap. I was almost late this morning but my mom dropped me off at the bus tunnel in Chinatown. I got to school on time, took my Psych final on time. I'm hoping I only got 4 wrong, because then my GPA could be something like 3.5 or 3.6 (an A). I'll just keep hoping...
After Psych I went near Thomson to study for Econ final, and briefly chilled with Austin before his Math final. The Econ final had all the easy questions except the last one which I BSed, it's too bad they had to be so easy but then again I was clueless about most of the questions in general, so I'm glad they were the easy questions.
AAS we had our pot luck and last presentation which was led by Chia-Chi. I'll actually miss this class the most.. it's too bad I didn't socialize more but oh well. Final is due Sunday @ noon.
So.. I survived, yay.
|
| 8.22.02 10:59 PM (Thursday) One more day |
I will begin this update by saying there are a ton of losers and scary ppo in Seattle. Yesterday I was waiting at the bus stop across the street from Uwaji, and this guy comes up in a pick-up truck and tries to do exactly that: pick me up o_O First he honked his horn a couple of times and I thought he was someone I knew, then I approached his truck and I realized I didn't know him so I just shook my head in disapproval for a couple of seconds and gave him a mean look and he sped off. Who knows what could've happened.. rape, death, rape after death...
Today I was riding the 9 home from Seattle Central and I sat behind one of the back doors, before some ppo got off I told the first guy "You might wanna pick up that bottle or else the door won't open.." and he's like "I DONT HAVE TO PICK UP THAT BOTTLE IM NOT YOUR SLAVE! WHY DONT YOU GO BACK TO TOKYO... WHERE YOU CAME FROM! [insert a bunch of other crap here]" He was black, hence the slave statement. It's interesting cuz in AAS 210 today we were talking about the LA riots and the tension between Koreans and African-Americans back in 1992. Anyways, I was pretty pissed off, I yelled a bunch of obscenities back at him (nothing racial though) and gave him the finger along with mean looks even after he got off. It just made me so angry...
Yeah so, we got extensions on everything in AAS 210 until Sunday at Noon, so now I'm slacking off. I have studying to do for Psych and Econ but I haven't started.
Afterschool today I went to GHS to change my schedule but I only ended up dropping Health. I wanted to switch AP Gov't to first semester but it's full... I really wanted to switch AP LA to something but to do that I would need to change AP Gov't and I can't b/c the only other period Gov't is offered is 6th and that's the period I have Annual X( It was a long wait for schedule changes too. I saw Sam H-S and Aaliyah there, among others. After that I headed down to Central and I signed up for 3 classes. Actually the only one I could get into easily was Health, I had to convince the Distance Learning ppo that I had taken General Psychology (which I'm taking at UW, I had to show her my notes and my syllabus) and English 101 (a pre-req for Econ 201. I showed her my HS transcript which I luckily had, and told her AP LA was supposed to be an equivalent of English 101... after a few calls around it was accepted.) So I'm taking 8 classes now, maybe 9 if I decide to take something 1st period X_x Anyways, after that I went to Jack in the Box, I haven't been there in so long...
Well tomorrow should be cool. I'll have survived my first quarter of college classes!
|
| 8.20.02 6:57 PM (Tuesday) x_x |
I didn't get very far with term paper last night. I have to write it out now...
Schoolday normal. My last presentation in AAS 210.
Schedules came today too. I hate my schedule. I will try to get it changed.
Here's what it is so far:
1 - Health/AP Gov't
2 - AP Chem
3 - AP Calc BC
4 - Physics
5 - AP LA
6 - Annual
|
| 8.19.02 9:37 PM (Monday) Yay! |
Eric came again today and drove me to my Ortho. appointment, and even though I was 10 minutes late they squeezed me in.
So here's my plan for the week: tonight I work on AAS 210 final paper, and if I don't finish tonight I'll finish tomorrow. Tomorrow and Wednesday night I'll work on my final exam, if I don't finish I'll finish Thursday night. Thursday night I'll also cram in Psych and Econ studying as well. I hope I can do everything in a reasonable amount of time... X_x |
| 8.16.02 10:22 PM (Friday) The Debut! |
Today I was late as usual. I slacked off so much last night, I should've spent the time studying and whatnot but I was online for probably four hours straight.
So I missed the bus by about one or two minutes which sucked. Psych wasn't too interesting. Econ we had our last quiz, I didn't study so I didn't do so hot, but I guess it doesn't really matter.
I got to Smith Hall, and noticed there were people in our classroom. When they came out i saw several familiar faces... Anna, this girl named Tracy who I don't know very well, and Ermina (wow haven't seen her since camp '01...) Everyone else in my class waiting seemed kinda annoyed, like "hmph! Teenagers!" to which I kinda took offense. I dunno, it kinda feels like I'm being judged just because of my age... anyways, the ppo were in our classroom for the UW.admit thing, which oddly I was going to do but I had classes o_O
Afterschool I watched Bontoc Eulogy at Odegaard. I remember seeing it on PBS a long time ago but I didn't watch the entire thing. As I found out later, Tomoki and others were there at the same time O_o I didn't notice them there tho. Hmm.
So I dropped by Chinatown for the usual Vietnamese sandwich, went back to Downtown and waited a little at Meridian 16, decided i had 20 minutes to spare, so I bought a venti Mocha Coconut Frappuccino at Starbucks. Then the waiting began. Alex G. came first, followed by Alex L. and Ben maybe 5 minutes later. We waited a really long time for Tomoki to come. As a last resort, I used Ben's cell to call someone who would know Tomoki's #, Jeffo, but Jeffo wasn't there (he told me he was going to some car show...) I wondered who else would've known it.. so I called Eric even though I knew he was working, but the line was busy. Then I decided to call Jeffo's house and ask his mom, and she gave it to me just as Tomoki came in.
We bought our tickets and decided to chill at Gameworks. It was kinda boring, I played the various SF games and I surprisingly lasted a few rounds. After that... we decided to go wait in the theatre.
There were ppo selling stuff outside the theatre. And some of the ppl working there were like "oh you go to UW? me too! Yeah who's your prof.?"
Anyways. The Debut as a movie was really, really good. Probably so because I related to it on so many levels. I really didn't think it would affect me as deeply as it did. But I liked it a lot... they addressed many Asian-American issues in general, along with tons of Filipino/Fil-Am culture. The aunt in the movie reminded me of a lot of aunts I know... there was also the fobby-type character. It was good; everyone go see it ^^
After that.. we went to Pacific Place because Ben was the only one that drove but he lost his ticket, so we went all the way back to Meridian 16 and back o_O Uhh yeah.
After circling the Pier parking lot for 20 or so minutes we finally found parking. We ate at Red Robins and I got greasy mushroom juice all over me. Yeah.. it was all good. Afterwards Ben dropped us all off.
To sum up today, it was pretty cool. I've never seen a movie that I've been able to connect with so much. Also... item #3 is done!
|
| 8.15.02 5:37 PM (Thursday) Stress |
What's up with this... the three ppo I'm talking to just suddenly go AFK and now they're all idle.. next thing you know they'll IM me individually, spelling out "PO" "KE" "MON"... ooh scary.
I didn't update yesterday but it was pretty stressful.
I woke up late... which pissed me off. I rushed down to the bus stop, but had a bloody nose, and it was running down in torrents so I walked up the hill back home and called my mom for a ride. I arrived in time for Econ which was all good.
In AAS we got our... FINALS! I'm freaking out and I haven't started it yet... it's going to be longer than the Midterm, so many more essay questions X_x On top of that, the paper, presentation, studying for Psych and Econ finals as well... oh well.
Afterschool Eric was supposed to come pick me up for my Ortho appointment but he came kinda late... and we were rushing down there but it was useless ^^; Oh well. It's nice that he's even driving me. But yeah, Eric was just really absent minded or something because he missed a ton of turns and stuff. Kinda funny.
TODAY... did anything interesting happen today? I don't think so... oh yeah I saw Christine @ UW for like a minute lol. At least today wasn't too stressful.
|
| 8.13.02 3:26 PM (Tuesday) Finished item #2! |
So the schoolday went on as normal. Then I went to GHS to get my RS signature! All the entrances were locked, I expected they didn't want me there or something. I found the only open entrance near the dumpster, where the administrators park. I saw Belinda and her sister there too... Belinda got a 5 on the Bio as expected. So yeah that was all dandy. I stopped by Ezell's too. I hope I won't have to return until school actually starts... (oh wait there's that Ignite thing next week... darn)
In other news, I just checked online to see my Psych score... 87.5% X( d00d. This means I have to get a 105% on the next test to get a 4.0. Well I really hope I get 100% on the next test... which is really hard b/c every test has a few questions that are somewhat... nebulous (OOH big word.)
|
| 8.12.02 10:29 PM (Monday) Yet another all-nighter |
Aah last night I pulled an all-nighter (kinda... I napped for maybe 30 or so minutes) but I was still really tired in the morning. I had to study for Psych Test #3, the one that probably determines my GPA. We took it, then I went into Mary Gates to figure out what questions I did wrong... I figured I got at least 3-4 wrong out of 40 X_x I calculated that I need a 99.7% on the final test to get a 4.0 (hmm.)
Econ 10/10 on Quiz #6, it's all good but I still don't understand the material. AAS 210 went on as usual, today was interesting b/c Annabel brought her daughter in and it was cute b/c Annabel fed her graham crackers so she wouldn't interrupt the presentation.
Afterschool I had no idea what I was doing, and even though I was really tired I decided to go take the COMPASS test at Central. After 20 minutes of waiting I finally got a waiver from one of the counselors, then I went to go take the test. The test was so tedious! The thing I didn't like was that they didn't number the questions or tell you how many more you needed to do. For the math section I was getting really hungry and I excruciatingly finished each question, even though I found the trig review a little hard... but my scores:
Mathematics Test:
College Algebra - 97
Trigonometry - 96
Reading Test: 99
Writing Test: 97
Yeah so it's all good. I plan to take some Econ courses (I think Central only offers Micro/Macro tho... nothing above that) and some Psychology courses to implement my summer courses. Possibly some other fun classes too. I think it'd be fun to try some science courses; I'm thinking about actually taking Biology so that my AP score actually means something if I do get credit for it.
So, let's think what has to be done in the next week or so:
1) Ortho. appointment Wednesday - Hopefully Eric will pull through.
2) Schedule appointment with GHS counselor - I need to get signatures for RS and to fill out volunteering forms.
3) "The Debut" opens Friday - Still need to get more ppo to go.
4) Final paper and exam in AAS 210 (and finals in Econ and Psych) - Yeah... this should be like 5 items cuz it's so much
5) Ignite Mentorship thing next Wednesday - Don't really wanna go, since it's Finals week and all...
6) RS appointment next Thursday
7) Camp Counselor Reunion #2? - Either next Friday or next next week.
8) Senior pix - I still need to call Yuen Lui! Aahhh.
9) Brush hair
Yeah I hope that covers everything...

| 8.10.02 9:09 PM (Saturday) Quarters |
These past few days have been pretty stagnant. Haven't really been doing anything for school, I just keep thinking "Only two more weeks. Only two more weeks..." Also, I'm trying to get ppl to come see "The Debut" August 16. Anyone interested? It'll be fun! ^^
I half-assed the Econ quiz on Friday. It was hard in that Instructor didn't give it to us in an example problem, but I guess it was easy enough...
Mm... today I went to Quarters! Alex G. picked me up, and we made the journey to Kirkland where everything was all happy and white. We met Eugene there, a little later than 5, playing DDR. Pablo came later, like at 6 or 6:30. Alex's coworker never showed up, but it's alright.
I was so tired and dehydrated. The only song I really wanted to pass was Healing Vision Angelic Mix, but I only got around 3/4 done... X_x I mean I was doing really well until that part near the end when it suddenly stops. Then my body was like "okay time to rest" even though the pause is really brief. I just get too tired too easily... Anyways. We all went to eat dinner at this "I luv teriyaki" joint and it was rather expensive (which is actually cheap Kirkland food.) Uhh... yeah. Eugene left, Pablo went to go back to Quarters, and Alex and I met up with him again after we ate. We didn't stay long though. Then we both left for Seattle.
Living in a suburb... I really wonder what it's like to live in a non-urban area. There were some Asian people there (maybe some of them were from Seattle). I wonder how "Asian" they are? I mean I wonder how much Asian identity they retain. Oh well.
Overall, today was a tiring day.
|
| 8.8.02 1:25 AM (Thursday) More birthday fun! |
Aahh so today was Gabino's b-day.
The schoolday went on as usual... late to Psych, didn't understand Econ... but in AAS today we had the guy who wrote the film "The Debut" come in to talk about it, everyone go see it at Meridian 16 the weekend of August 16 to support Asian American cinema ^_- Anyways. Afterschool I headed Downtown to buy Gabino's present, then I headed over to Chinatown to wait for him to pick me up and to make his card (ahaha that's how it went if you couldn't figure it out...)
Lessee. Got to Gabino's house and it was pretty chill. ppo started coming, like Eric, Alex L., Aaron, Brian, Alex G. We played on on the Gamecube and it was overall pretty chill. After that... we started harrassing the dogs, and then started gambling. I was having fun, then a certain someone comes (David) and I'm trying my best to avoid him but still have fun at the same time. Why does it have to be this way? I'm so frustrated at this point I don't know how to approach him..
Anyways, enough of that. Fast forward a while... we eat, then go outside for fireworks. Soon Anna comes. I secretly give her the card to sign... (if you're reading this Gabino, I just ruined it for you... but you had to learn some time...)
Eventually the night just twiddled down to me, Gabino, Alex G., Alex L., and Anna. Fun card games... we had the maddest game of Spoons (Fork) ever, that game is always crazy... Alex L. soon left so it was just us four (well, and Gabino's brother Gianni.) Before we knew it was around midnight, so we parted ways and went home.
|
| 8.5.02 3:20 PM (Monday) Missed Psych two days in a row... |
Aaahhh... I missed Psych for the second day in a row. This can't be good for the next exam, especially since I don't really read the text...
So yeah I worked all night (I started really late too... uhh) on my AAS 210 presentation, reading the two articles I mentioned before and outlining them. I was obviously late by 40 minutes or so, when I got to the UW I used the rest of my Psych period to make copies of the outline.
I'm so lost in Econ. In Asian-American Identity I presented the first article from my presentation today.

| 8.3.02 10:26 PM (Saturday) Anna's B-day/mini-camp reunion |
Happy b-day Anna.
I got a good 10-12 hours of sleep last night, which was good b/c I hadn't slept much all week. I woke up at 12. I called some people to confirm the party but I didn't call Anna, who I needed to talk to the most.
Well Gabino came at 3 and we got some McDonald's before heading over to Fred Meyer to buy some food and supplies for Anna's party. We got to Golden Gardens, and saw Anna all by herself. Then other people started coming.
We were there the entire day, it was pretty fun. Let's see who I remember. This girl named Lynn came, and some other ppl from Redmond/Renton. Allison soon came. Tomoki soon came. Dea and Janine, who I'd only talked to online before. Alex G. soon came. (it was supposed to be a camp counselor reunion type thing but... it wasn't really...) And Jenny soon came. And her BF soon came.
So... a lot of nothing went on at the party. Tons of people brought food, and it was all good. Pizza was soon bought.
I remember playing badminton, which was kinda fun. And trying to get people to play Hollywood Squares and Survivor.
We were trying to build the bonfire so we got free wood from this truck. And then the beach patrol comes to us and tells us we can't use wood that has nails in it... so we try to take the nails out using whatever. We borrow tools from our pit neighbors. But while that happened...
The highlight of the day was when this guy, Tim, stepped on a nail and got all bloody. Blood was just dripping out of his foot. Luckily Alex and two others took him to a hospital where he got taken care of.
Yeah it was just straight chillin until 9 or so when we left. I saw Lizzy and Shawn Doyle walking by, haven't seen them in a while... shame I don't talk to Lizzy anymore because I remember last summer, and we were tight. Ohh well.
So lessee we packed up and started leaving. Gabino took many of us home, including me, Anna, Anna's siblings, Allison, and Tomoki. Overall, a fun party (not sarcasm, just... exhausted...)

| 8.2.02 11:29 PM (Friday) Really mixed day |
Today was so mixed in terms of ups/downs. I stayed up practically all night, I think I took a 30 minute nap last night but I was like "FUCK! I fell asleep!" Yeah. Anyways for some reason I had the willpower to lay in bed and read half of Child of the Owl at 5 AM or so. (I was falling asleep and such.)
So around 9:10 or so I started printing my midterm but I left to go take a shower and the printer jammed it was so annoying. I came back and was like 'oh no! why won't it print?' so it took me and hour to figure out what was wrong and finish printing it. Needless to say I came to school two hours late, missed Psych and quiz in Econ, I felt kinda bad.
In AAS 210 everyone found out I was a high school person today, which I really wasn't interesting in sharing before because everyone would've been like "whoa what a freak." I really hope they don't treat me too differently because of it. I do know that I was just lost with the technicalities for my midterm, ie how to cite sources, etc. but I do hope that's overlooked to some extent. Still... I mean I can relate, it is annoying when there are freshmen in Calculus. But Asian-American Identity isn't one of those classes, it's a class anyone can take I guess, so hopefully no one will have that mentality...
So after midterm I met Tomoki in front of By George and we were supposed to meet Jenny around 1:30 at Ben and Jerry's. Too bad we didn't know where it was... we took 30 minutes to get down to U Village and we wandered around a bit, because she told me it was "behind Safeway" when in fact it was un U Village (yeah I don't go there often.) So we found Jenny at the map and it was like "whoa." She gave the stuff we needed (weed) because she is our dealer. No just kidding. Anyways we visited Alex at Noah's Bagels and I felt obliged to buy something so I randomly bought some salmon lox-type cream cheese (can't wait to try it... mmm.)
After that Tomoki and I went to Chinatown to buy some sandwiches and chill and stuff. I started off today with $30 and now I'm all broke... aaahhh....

| 8.1.02 3:07 PM (Thursday) Let's see... |
Let's see what I have to do for AAS 210:
1) Finish my midterm - finishing two essay questions, formulating the answer to two essay questions and then writing them completely, proofreading the entire thing, adding a 'Works Cited' list
2) Read Child of the Owl by Laurence Yep - I have to read it completely minus the two pages I read in Gabino's car on Sunday (haha) and annotate it to look for passages I can use in one of the aforementioned essays in item (1)
3) Read M. Butterfly by David Henry Hwang - Again for the midterm, I just have to reread it to pull quotes for one of the essays
4) Read essays by Natalie Zemon Davis and Lawrence Levine - I probably won't do this tonight, but if I have any time (like I will...) then I'll go ahead and do it... there are two presentations going on tomorrow, hopefully they'll take up the entire class period but Prof. goes so quickly sometimes we do three presentation. I'll try to at least read the first essay.
And here's what else I have to do:
5) Study for Econ Quiz - I have to read the chapters in the text, cuz I'm not getting the lectures at all. But yeah I probably won't have time to study.
Alright! I have to be awake enough to meet Jenny at U. Village tomorrow after school, maybe I will also visit Alex if he is working. I just can't wait for this week to be over, then I can do more work over the weekend to survive academically next week o_O
